1 FRACTION BASICS

2 Fraction to Decimal 𝐷𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒 π‘‘β„Žπ‘’ Numeπ‘Ÿπ‘Žπ‘‘π‘œπ‘Ÿ π·π‘’π‘›π‘œπ‘šπ‘–π‘›π‘Žπ‘‘π‘œπ‘Ÿ =π·π‘’π‘π‘–π‘šπ‘Žπ‘™ 1 4 = = = =1 These are the benchmark fractions/decimals

3 Decimal to Percent… Percent to Decimal
1 4 = = = =1 Just need to multiply by 100% once in decimal form 0.25 x 100% = 25% Just need to divide by 100% once in percent form 25% Γ· 100% = 0.25

4 To write any decimal as a fraction, just use place value
0.6 there is a 6 in the tenths place 6/10 b) 0.53 there is a 53 in the hundredths place 53/100Β  c) 0.774 there is a 774 in the thousandths place 774/1000

5 Quarter to three, Quarter after three
2:45 & 3:15 Quarter is 25 cents 25 cents is actually 25 out of 100, which is a dollar = ….. Equivalent fractions Quarter of sixty minutes is 15 minutes……

6 Equivalent Fractions You can find any equivalent fraction by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator by the exact same number. x 4 = x 4

7 Reduce the fraction into β€œsimplest form” \ i.e. β€œlowest terms”
Γ· 5 Find the biggest number that both the numerator and denominator are divisible by. = Γ· 5

8 Improper Fraction / Mixed Number
9 4 See how many times the denominator goes into the numerator (that is your whole number) and whatever is left over is your new fraction. 2 1 4 9 Γ· 4 = 2, leaves 1 as remainder Multiply the denominator by the whole number and then add the numerator. That answer becomes your new numerator and the denominator stays the same. 2 3 4 11 4 x 2+ 3 = 11 4

9 Adding Fractions + 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 We need a common
Count by 2's + 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 Count by 7's 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 We need a common denominator to add these fractions. The first number IN COMMON that appears on both lists becomes the common denominator Adding Fractions

10 common denominator is 14 + x 2 x 7 7+6 14 1 2 14 14 3 7 7 6 = x 2 x 7 13 14 Adding Fractions

11 Subtracting Fractions
4 5 βˆ’ 4 10 common denominator is 10 Do not need to change as 10 is already in the denominator - x 2 8βˆ’4 10 4 10 4 5 10 8 = x 2 4 10 Subtracting Fractions
