5 Starting the College Search
Now is the time for juniors to start looking at colleges Attend the college fair at VUJC on October 1st. Search the internet, college handbooks and meet with college reps. Visit colleges of interest

6 College Visitations Contact the admissions office two weeks in advance to set up the appointment Contact Mrs. Werner for a Pre- Arranged Absence Form (or print off of web site) and submit before the visit Student must return a verification form on the day following the visit toMrs. Werner Can take as many as necessary(within reason)

7 What to expect on the visit
Meet with the office of admissions Take a campus tour Meet with someone in your planned academic major May meet with the office of financial aid (private colleges usually) Attend a class

8 Tests for Juniors/Seniors
PSAT – Wed, October 10th in a.m. for 10th & 11th ASVAB- Wed, Oct 10th in the a.m. for 11th not taking the PSAT, and 12th graders on a Pathway PSAT is free for Juniors/Sophs. Juniors register in guidance office by Sept. 30(NMSQT) All Sophs. will test-no need to register SAT Reasoning Test and/or ACT – take during the spring of the junior year-multiple test scores will not hurt the student. SAT Subject tests SAT/ACT retakes no later than Dec. of senior year ISTEP retest for some starting on Dec. 4th

Access College/University website. Apply on-line Access Parchment Common Application (Purdue) Request transcript to be sent to colleges via Parchment Purdue, IU, U of Kentucky, and NCAA Clearinghouse require test scores to be sent directly from testing agency.

Is counselor form/signature page needed? Thanksgiving is recommended deadline for submitting applications If letter of recommendation is needed, allow two (2) weeks (forms on website)

What the parent does: Discuss college options Visit schools with your son/daughter Help your son/daughter organize materials Support them through the process What you do NOT do: Complete the applications for your son/daughter

14 Change for Parchment Starting this last Fall Parchment will charge $3.25 for any past graduate to send a transcript. There is no fee for in-state schools for currently enrolled high school students. Students go from currently enrolled to past graduates on August 1 each year.

Not much for juniors to do except maintain grades Scholarship & Financial Aid search starts in the senior year All information is posted on the website FAFSA/Financial Aid meeting October 15. 6:30pm

Take the PSATor ASVAB in October Take an SAT and/or ACT- Send scores directly to IU, Purdue, and NCAA Clearinghouse Start investigating colleges and careers Look at admission requirements Maintain or improve grades Meet with counselor in the spring for course selection for senior year Visit colleges next summer Graduation Pathways

23 Must complete ONE of the following: for Academic Honors   -Earn 4 hs credits in 2 or more AP courses and take corresponding AP exam – OR- -Earn 6 verifiable transcripted college credits in dual credit courses from the priority course list –OR- -Earn 3 verifiable transcripted college credits from the priority list and 2 credits in AP courses and corresponding AP exam –OR or higher on SAT, no less than 560/Math. 590/EBR/W –OR- -ACT composite of 26 or above, must include writing portion

24 To check IVY Tech Dual credits.
The student will go to:   and click on “First Time User” to create an Ivy Tech account.  They will create their own password during this process.  Once they create their account & sign in, there will be a gray menu bar on the left side of the screen.  They should click on “Student” and then click on “Course Info”.  In the middle of the display screen, they should select “Unofficial Transcripts”. Each online applicant is sent a card with their C# on it to their home address.  If they did not retain that card, they can call our HelpDesk  (888) IVY-LINE.  By verifying certain information (such as their SSN, Name and DOB), they can find out their own C#.
