WRITING GRANTS Must Haves:
Research funding sources i.e.: Foundations, religious groups, civic organizations, local government Personal Contact: Make an appointment with a funding source that closely aligns with your mission, develop relationship A Good Writer: Someone who can clearly tell your story, captivate the reader, make it personal, FOLLOW instructions, ANSWER questions A Number Cruncher: Someone who loves spreadsheets, can collect and analyze your data, has a mind for finance A Proof Reader: Read, read & re-read, check numbers and totals, be sure each component tells the same story, correct all spelling and punctuation errors A Good Cover Letter: Brief, to the point, thanking funder for the opportunity

Selecting areas and types of household to mail information soliciting donations (Addressed for Success) – mail once per year Newsletters Develop inhouse mailing list from acquisition, current donors, volunteers and other stakeholders – mail 4 to 6 times per year Special Requests Special appeal to current active donors
