3 Engaging in the Place where you operate
Raising the aspirations and achievements of children and young people In terms of Place, this is the Place where you operate – your local community – and our aim here is to engage every business to impact positively within its community. Engagement with communities and the issues they face can provide companies with an insight into the hearts and the minds of their employees, their customers and their stakeholders. Getting involved in the community and making a positive impact is part of a modern business approach to reducing risk as well as a fundamental aspect of being a responsible business. We focus on three issues here: Education and young people Deprived communities Helping small firms and social economy organisations grow responsibly

Raising the aspirations and achievements of children and young people 500+ business volunteers helping children improve their reading every week One hour a week Term time Cluster/individual On the SME side, we have a Connections Programme, funded by ESB Independent Energy, which has so far brokered support for over 500 small firms through mentoring matches and best practice seminars on a range of topics. In terms of young people and education, we are also trying to change the way work experience happens in Northern Ireland by working with employers to make it much more inspirational and relevant – for both the student and the employer.

8 Regenerating deprived communities through employer-supported volunteering
Digital Assist Tackling digital exclusion for people across Northern Ireland – Silver Surfers Day/Connect-Ability 1 hour/1/2 day or full day Flexible

9 Prohelp Providing help and assistance to a wide range of community/voluntary organisations eg developing a marketing plan 2 hrs/20 hrs Dependant on request from group
