Young Leader Training Module C That’s the way to do it
2
Objectives: Understand and be able to talk about how Young People learn effectively. Demonstrate an ability to pass on a skill. Understand and talk about different learning styles. Have confidence in using different training techniques. It’s always good to start with objectives so we know what we are going to be doing for the session. Talk through the objectives and remember to revisit them at the end to see if we have achieved everything. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Artist Activity: The Seer – you can only give verbal descriptions to the runner. The Runner – You can only repeat the instructions to the artist. You cannot see either drawing, only pass the information from the seer to the artist. The Artist – You must draw, as best you can, using the instructions the runner gives you. Split the young leaders into teams of 3 and get them to pick a seer, runner and an artist. They have to draw all 4 images. These can be found in C1. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Learning styles: There are 4 different styles of learning they are:
Auditory Visual Kinaesthetic Mixed Auditory: Think of this is a lecturers speaking to a class, talking through the work. Visual: A demonstration of the task helps them visualise how the task is done. Kinaesthetic: learn by doing, they would rather try something to understand it. Mixed is a collaboration of all three learning styles. Once you have discussed these with the young leaders you should share what type of learner you are and ask the young leaders if they can identify what type of learner they are. This will help to make the connection between the learning styles and practical ways this can be used in weekly meetings. Get the young leaders to think about the advantages and disadvantages of each learning style, what learning style would work well with different activities. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

Lets have a go: There are 4 activities around the hall, there are a number of different pieces of equipment around the hall, you have to create a game in your team and deliver it to the rest of the group. Balls, cones, rope and other such equipment can be used here what ever comes to hand for the young leaders to create and deliver their game. The games do not have to be original however they do have to be delivered as if they were. This will help to build the confidence of the young leaders and give them a new game to try with their section. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE
