Axis I- clinical disorders based on symptoms Axis II- developmental/ personality disorders Autism, LD, Impulse Control, Sleep, Eating… Axis III- medical conditions Alzheimer's, Dementia, chemical imbalances… Axis IV- adjustment disorders Excessive symptoms from stress Axis V- relationships, jobs, leisure activities

Psychoses – primarily out of touch w/ reality/ does not perceive reality correctly Seriously interferes with life Difficulties meeting the demands of life Confused or disconnected thoughts May experience delusions and/ or hallucinations Inappropriate feelings Severe/ bizarre behaviors

Schizophrenia- A group of disorders characterized by confused and disconnected thoughts, emotions, and perceptions. Paranoid- “Someone is always watching me” “I am the savior of my people” Hallucinations- Delusions of grandeur- Del. of persecution- Disorganized- In coherent language Inappropriate emotions Giggling for no apparent reason Disorganized motor behavior Hallucinations and delusions Ch 16, sec 4 and 5

Schizophrenia Undifferentiated- Catatonic-
Deterioration of daily functions hallucinations and delisions Inappropriate emotions Thought disorders Catatonic- May remain motionless for long periods Limbs in unusual positions may take a long time to return to a relaxed position.

Personality disorders- disturbances with little anxiety and few symptoms Anti-social (psychopath)- Paranoid- Compulsive- Schizoid- Sociopath- Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)- Ch 16, sec 4 and 5
