1 Specifically for Miss Outred’s 2015 Class
TS Eliot Module B Specifically for Miss Outred’s 2015 Class

2 Why Eliot? This is the first year Eliot has been on the Module B HSC list He is described as one of the 20th Century’s most influential and recognised poets You’ve been specifically prepped with ‘Critical Study of Harwood’ in Year 11

3

4 Personal understanding
The HSC markers want to see a PERSONAL understanding of the poems. It is vital that you develop a deep understanding and interpret personal meaning from the each of the poems. This means you need to rely on your own skill set, not just the teacher’s. All five of the poems are the set text for study - read them in order as they appear in the Prescriptions document. The HSC exam could specify one, two or all of the poems they wish you to write on during the examination.

5 Expectations You are expected to:
read, re-read, annotate, re-read, interpret, re-read, represent, reflect on and re-read each of the poems. Did I mention you need to re-read each poem? come to class ready to discuss your personal interpretation (something new and different for you! No hiding away, ‘same here’ or last minute generalised ideas like ‘I thought it was about adversity’) build on your independent learning skills this term (take initiative, don’t just say ‘I’ll wait and talk to Miss Outred’ - try to think for yourself. Also, research and read for yourself - not just when you have a homework task!)
