2 Objectives: State a range of additional needs that Young People may have. Understand how additional needs may affect their participation. Explain how to adapt programmes to meet the needs of all Young People. Explain where to go for further information and guidance. Additional needs cover a huge range of disabilities and will vary from being very mild to very severe. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if someone has additional needs, and you should never assume that someone does – ask your leadership team. Additional needs can be temporary, a broken arm or permanent like downs syndrome. It is also very important to be aware of invisible needs, like partial deafness or dyslexia LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE

3 Disability and Special Educational Needs
Discuss: What do you understand about the term “disability”? What different types have you come across as a young leader? Are there any young people within their section with a Disability? Lead a whole group discussion and get Young Leaders to share what they understand about the term ‘Disability’. Young people will have a varied understanding of additional needs and disabilities. It is important that this discussion is held in a positive and safe environment in which young people feel able to ask questions honestly and openly. LIFE CHANGING ADVENTURE
