6 Provider capability building working group
18 people on the group Held five workshops Identified several ways providers can plan and be ready for the transformed system, including: undertaking an organisational self-review and completing an action plan based on the self-review recommendations undertaking customer journey mapping ensuring disabled people’s voices and expertise are heard at all levels of the organisation preparing and training staff about how to deliver support that is person-directed and how practice needs to be guided by the Enabling Good Lives principles.

7 Provider capability building working group - continued
Identified the following key actions to support provider capability building Information and communication – support providers to communicate across all stakeholders and organisation governance, people accessing services, leadership, middle management and front line workers. Community of practice - establish opportunities for providers to come to together to learn, develop new ways of working and share their experiences and knowledge of engaging with system transformation. Collaboration and partnership – encourage and support providers to explore ways to collaborate and/or form formal partnerships with each other and others. External independent expertise and mentoring – identify and resource system change champions and external consultants.

Capability building funding available for providers in MidCentral prototype Provider working group - recommendations to MidCentral RLG/Governance group: Arrange and host provider community information events across region Complete provider stocktake Gather feedback on what capability building providers want Provider expertise to assist provider to complete EGL self assessment Use feedback from providers to plan and fund next stage of capability building

9 Workforce working group
Two representatives from: Disabled people Unions Providers Officials Meets monthly in 2018 Key topics include: What will be the impact for the workforce Information and communication with workforce on system change - what needs to be communicated and who needs to do it? Employment and contracting - understanding the difference, rules and when they apply Pay equity rates across employment arrangements Support to be a good employer - best practice guidelines

10 Advice for providers from Waikato
Expertise Disabled people and whānau have expertise on what support they need. Tap into what they want and would like to see on offer Explain Explain what support you’re good at, avoid clinical terms Specialise Adapt to change, think about specialising in particular areas One point of contact Offer one point of contact for disabled people and whānau, rather than transferring to a number of different people
