Escape Rooms for Workplace Learning Masie’s Learning 2017 Conference
An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. Players are given a set time limit to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the rooms. Escape rooms are inspired by "escape-the-room"–style video games. Games are set in a variety of fictional locations, such as prison cells, dungeons and space stations, and are popular as team building exercises. The earliest room was created in 2006 or 2007[citation needed], and escape rooms became popular in the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, Israel and mainland China in the 2010s. Permanent escape rooms in fixed locations were first opened in Asia[1] and followed later in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia and South America.[ Team building Active, kinesthetic learning Timed environment= increased pressure Feeling of accomplishment Add in speaker notes about value of gamification for learning Escape Rooms for Workplace Learning Masie’s Learning 2017 Conference Kelly M. Mission: Breakout! You are happily attending the Session 4 breakout at the Learning 2017 Conference. All is going well…..but then…. DUN DUN DUN! A representative from a big rival competitor company has snuck in to the session. He'll be holding you hostage in this classroom for at least 1/2 an hour! If that's not sad enough, the brilliant closing Keynote starts in 30 minutes! This rival has challenged you to test your knowledge of Medicare in order to solve a series of tasks and unlock the box to get the ticket to attend the keynote. If you're successful, he might let you go. If you are not successful, you will be carted off to their corporate headquarters to slave away in their mailroom forever. Potentially change the design of this slide? Use your creative thinking- and googling- to try to escape! Want to play the virtual version?
