Mood and Tone Having now heard part of Walt Whitman’s “Song of the Open Road,” what would you say are the emotions that the poet is expressing? What emotions is Whitman trying to evoke in his reader? How does Whitman use words and structure to get these emotions across? And always remember to bring a towel!

How is an English class like an open road? (Partners) Where do you want to get to when the road ends in June? What are some rules of the road that will help us get there?

Tomorrow: The Rules of the Road
Be sure to have a looseleaf binder with wide-ruled paper Tomorrow, we will discuss the grading policy, how contact will work among you, me and your parents, and what it will take for us all to reach the end of the road. Remember what Whitman tells us: “I do not seek good fortune. I myself AM good fortune.”
