Portrait should NOT be a front view. Try 3/4 , profile, or anything else in between
Portrait should interacts with the background of your composition. (i.e. looking or reacting to something; physical interaction such as smelling a flower, blowing out a candle or eating something; distorting or skewing the portrait into the background

3. Tips and tricks…
Use the handouts to help create guidelines for your specific portrait position
Take a few photos of a person you know to use as your subject. Draw guidelines directly on the photo to help you know exactly what they should look like
Research how to add proper value to the face. For example under the chin, eye sockets, temples and philtrum
