She went to Africa with Earnest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.’ Roald Dahl Matilda

5
Why is reading so important?
Evidence suggests that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in reading tests than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures. It develops fundamental speaking and listening skills that are vital for children's communication so they can live successful lives in society. It supports development of word recognition and sentence structure which are key skills for children developing their ability write. Exposes them to a rich, broad vocabulary. Helps children develop an imagination, allowing them to explore new places and cultures, deepening their understanding of the world around them.
