Wet AMD Service Patients accessing the Cwm Taf service receive their new appointment within 2-3 weeks Patients are assessed in a “one stop” consultant led clinic Follow up visits scheduled at 4 week intervals Patients are currently waiting 6-8 weeks for a follow up

Wed AMD Service Wet AMD service is based at Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda (YCR)
All patients attend YCR for initial consultation, treatment and follow up on a one stop basis. Estimated that approximately 40% of patients who attend these clinics for a follow up appointment do not require an injection

Community Service Successful submission to Welsh Government to establish pilot Community service will release capacity at YCR Keir Hardie Health Park clinic accommodates follow up patients from Merthyr Tydfil and the Cynon Valley Suitable patients are those in the “mature” phase of treatment cycle (no treatment in previous three attendances)

Governance Arrangements
Results of the clinical assessment and decision from the optometrists reviewed virtually by a consultant in the first month This ensured compliance with the clinical pathway and provide any feedback necessary to the optometrist. Currently the consultants review 10% of the caseload randomly as part of ongoing quality assurance of the service.
