Using the handout, you will take notes. HW tonight is to review your notes and write one question or study prompt in the left hand column for each main idea. Write your summary.

4 Preparing for Labs Read all instructions before performing the lab.
Get permission before starting the lab And before handling the equipment.

6 Read Labels Labels tell you what is in the can or bottle.
Pictograms communicate specific information about the hazards of a chemical. Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS)

7 Safety Features and Equipment
Know the location of our safety equipment. Take a moment now to look around our room. In your notes, write down where you see the safety features.

8 Act Responsibly in the Lab
Give 100% attention and effort to lab work. Tell your teacher if you think there is something wrong with the equipment.

9 Chemical Labs Notify the teacher of any spills or breakages.
Report all accidents or injuries however small. Fire burns. Keep all flammable stuff away from flames or heat.

10 Fume Hood WHAT is it? A local ventilation system. WHY use it? To protect yourself from toxic fumes and dust. How do we use it?

13 Cleaning Up Your Bench Turn off gas and water, disconnect electrical devices. Return all materials to their proper place. Dispose of stuff as directed by your teacher. Wipe down the work area.

14 Clean Up Yourself Wipe down your goggles and put them away.
Wash your hands after working in the lab. Remember, even some rocks and minerals are poisonous.
