Wilson’s and Sullivan’s Scoop Sept. 6th – Sept. 9th
What I’m Learning: This week our mentor text is Aunt Flossie’s Hats (and Crab Cakes Later). In Reading, we are visualizing to create mental pictures, rereading to gain more details, making text-to-self connections, and inferencing. We have our first Reading Comprehension test on Friday. In grammar, we are exploring simple subjects and simple predicates. In writing, we are building our writing community. In math, we are learning strategies to help us multiply. We will have an ISP (Short test) over arrays and groups on Friday. We will also have our first Fact Fluency test this Friday. It will be a 5 minute timed test over multiplication and division with 0’s, 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s. Vocabulary words and definitions: 1. floppy –soft and hanging down loosely 2. recall – remember 3. clatter – bang together or rattle noisily 4. disaster – an event, such as a fire, that causes a lot of damage or suffering 5. celebration – happy event held to honor a special occasion 6. retrieve – bring or get something back. Date: ______ Teacher News: PENNY WARS continue this week until Friday. Bring your money in now! We will have a Book Fair Sept. 12th – 16th. Wilson’s class will shop during library time on Monday and Sullivan’s class will shop in the library on Tuesday. Grandparent’s Day is Sept. 16th. Invite them to come (Or a representative for them. PTO – Now is the time to join! Parents, we have snack at 10:00. Please make sure your child has a snack or purchases one. All snacks are 50 cents each. Sullivan’s homeroom wear tennis shoes on Thurs. Wilson’s on Wed. for P.E. Homework: Reading: (Due on Friday) Assignment 1: Reading Log Assignment 2: Grammar sheet Math: (Math homework is due nightly) Mon.- Holiday Tues.- Multiplication Arrays p. 5. Wed.-Homework #4, p. 124. Thurs.- Homework #3, Picture Math, p. 114. Tests this week: Reading and Math: Monday – Tuesday – Wednesday – Thurs. – Friday – Reading Comprehension ISP on arrays and groups for multiplication, and Fact Fluency.
