Science Fair Parent Night

Goals of the Science Fair
Students will: Actively engage in inquiry science. Personalize the scientific method. Learn to set and meet goals. Feel successful with the scientific method.

Important Information
The project is completed at home. Student ideas must have teacher approval. Students may not use vertebrates. The student’s experiment must be testable. The experiment must be scientifically significant.

Important Information Continued
Simply building a model or reporting on a topic is not acceptable. Students must follow the directions for their display board. Each teacher has their own specific due date shortly after Spring Break. The school wide display of projects will be April 8, 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Picking A Topic Find a topic your child is interested in.
Focus on one aspect of that topic and ask testable questions about it. You should not already know the answer to the questions…you need to test it! Pick a testable question that creates the most interest in the student. Use resources such as the internet and books to help generate ideas.

Science Fair Judging Categories
Behavioral and Social Science Biochemistry, Medicine, Health Botany and Zoology Earth and Space science Engineering Environmental Science Mathematics Physical Science **The goal will be to send 1 student from each category and 2 wild cards from each team.

Union 7th Grade Science Fair
Your student is not required to attend. Outside judges will award ribbons. Students must follow all display board directions to qualify for participation in the science fair. If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask the teacher.
