The Tuskegee Airmen were a group of African American
men who served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Members of the Tuskegee Airmen were the first African American group to qualify as military pilots.

Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. commanded the 99th Pursuit Squadron. The 99th was the very first all Black squadron.

By 1939, more than 100 African Americans were licensed pilots. A lot of the Tuskegee Airmen served overseas from 1943 to 1945.

People thought that the Tuskegee Airmen were going to fail, but they did not. The Airmen never lost a pilot that they were assigned to escort.

The Tuskegee Airmen destroyed more than 200 enemy planes. They received many medals for their outstanding service.
