Girolamo Savonarola- Italian Dominican Friar and Preacher
Known for his prophecies of civic glory and calls for Christian Renewal He thought that there was a coming of a biblical flood and an invasion of the north who would reform the church He was right and Charles VIII of France invaded Italy Summoned to Rome after Florence refused to join Pope Alexander's holy league against the French He disobeyed and further denied the Pope by preaching under a ban The Pope excommunicated him and threatened to place the city under a Prohibit

Girolamo Savonarola- Trial by Fire proposed by a rival Florentine preacher to test Savonarola was a disaster and popular opinion turned against him Savonarola and two lieutenants were imprisoned Under torture, He confessed to his prophesies and visions On May 23, 1498 All three of them were hung and burned in the main square in Florence

What Happened- The burning of objects that were thought to be sinful
The most famous one was on February 7, 1497- Supporters of the Dominican Priest Girolamo Savonarola collected and burned thousands of objects in Florence at the Mardi Gras Festival Books, Art, Mirrors, Fine Dresses, Playing Cards, Musical Instruments, and Cosmetics were burned This event of destruction happened to burn objects that might make someone tempted to sin

Who was Involved- The Supporters of the Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola were the ones burning them

Religious Disunity in Europe-
The disunity in Europe with the Church was that Alexander and Savonarola with his followers had very different views on Christianity. In the end, the religion spit due to their conflicts of belief into different forms of Christianity.
