1. Auto Level View though eye piece Purpose
An auto level is a piece of equipment used to calculate the difference in height, rough distances and measure the angle between points. It consists of a telescope with a cross hair to allow accurate lining up. It is normally used in conjunction with an E-staff ( a long staff marked off in 10mm increments.
Use
It requires two people to operate, one person to move the staff, whilst the other take readings through the site of the auto level.
Before it can be used the auto level needs to be set up to be perfectly level, this is achieved by using the 3 adjusting screws at the base until the sight bubble is central. Further checks are then carried out to check the accuracy of the auto level.
The person holding the staff will move to set locations, whilst the readings are noted down, is the numbers increase this will indicate the land is dropping.
The E-staff can also be used to gauge rough distances by using the upper and lower horizontal lines, and multiplying the distance by a factor of 10.
Storage and Care
As this is a highly accurate piece of equipment it should be stored in a strong case when not in use or being transported. When set up on site it should be located away from anything that may knock it or jog it out of place, such as heavy pant vehicles driving close by.
