2 What: To learn what Seniors need to do this year to prepare for life after graduation, including: College Admissions, Financial Aid, Post-Secondary Plans. Why: So you will not miss important deadlines. How: Through these presentations and a follow-up graduation check with counselors, you will be able to remember the following: -UC/CSU, Private, and Community College Deadlines -Using Naviance to organize college admissions - Senioritis IS NOT an option

4 Am I on track to graduate?
At this time, you must have at least 160 credits to be on track for graduation! Counselors are meeting individually with seniors in their offices during the months of August/September to review graduation status and post- secondary plans.

5 Graduation Requirements
English, 4 years Math, 2 years Science, 2 years Social Science, 3 years Physical Education , 2 years 30 credits in at least 2 out of 3 categories Language Other Than English (LOTE) Visual Performing Arts Applied Art General Electives, 60 credits 220 credits

6 Systemwide Admission Requirements

7 Credit Recovery If you receive an F in a course needed for graduation, you MUST recover these credits before the end of your senior year Options for credit recovery: Odysseyware (course/s offered during the day at BHS) CACE (Campbell Adult Community Education) Credit recovery program - Odysseyware Community College (must have prior approval from your counselor) Online classes - BYU (must have prior approval from your guidance advisor) Odysseyware Academy (spaces limited, seniors have priority)

8 REPEATING AND VALIDATING HIGH SCHOOL COURSES
Courses used to satisfy the “A-G” requirements in which the student earns D or F grades must be repeated or validated with grade of C or higher. The repeated grades are used in calculating the GPA.

9 College Entrance Examinations
SAT Reasoning Test (CSU, UC & most Private Colleges) Critical Reading Math Writing (Essay) Scored separately Composite Total: 1600 ACT 36 If planning to take ACT, must include the writing component for UC and Privates SAT Subject Exam (UC/Privates) No longer required, however certain majors from different schools still recommend it. For UC: Freshman applicants must arrange to have official scores reports sent by December 2016. Register on-line or

11 Senior Year Goals Take rigorous courses and study hard
Pass all senior courses with a C or better Visit college campuses or attend college fairs College list (between 5 to 8) Take SAT/ACT in August, October, and November, possibly December Complete Counselor LOR Survey, Teacher LOR Survey, Parent Questionnaire Identify teacher for letters of recommendations Schedule interview with school counnselor for a letter of recommendation Register for NCAA and request transcript Gather and complete college applications Apply for FAFSA or Dream Act Application and/or CSS Financial Profile Apply for scholarships

12 Let’s Talk About Senioritis….
Keep a full academic load of courses BOTH semesters. Don’t drop classes (It can affect college acceptance & success after high school) Senior grades matter for: Graduation A-G courses even after colleges accept you Cal Grants & Scholarships You must take Math & English Placement Tests for CSU and community college. Remedial courses cost $ and don’t count towards degree Math senior year helps for all types of college!!!

August/September: Individual Senior Meetings with School Counselor September 29th: Early Action/Early Decision Letter of Recommendation Form Due October 1st: CSU and Financial Aid Applications Open for Submission October 24th: Financial Aid Night (FAFSA/Dream Act Application) at 6:30pm November 1st: UC Application Open for Submission November 3rd: Regular Decision Letter of Recommendation Form Due November 7th: Cash for College Night at 6:00pm November 30th: CSU and UC Application Deadline February 13th: Cash for College Night at 6:00pm December 20th to 22nd: Semester One Finals Notes for next year 07-08 Add slide on ACT

March 2nd: FAFSA or Dream Act Application Due March/April: Apply to Community College March/April: Sign up for Placement Testing at Community College March 14th and 15th : West Valley College and DeAnza College Visits to Gov/Econ May 1st: S.I.R (Statement of Intent to Register) Deadline May 7th to 18th: A.P. Exams May 23rd: Senior Awards Night June 7th Graduation Notes for next year 07-08 Add slide on ACT
