Presentation on theme: "oleophilic plant stalks"— Presentation transcript:

1 BGP 150 is an excellent microbial absorbent material that is all natural. This product is made from
oleophilic plant stalks. These plants contain natural oils and once these oils are removed the residual material has a natural affinity to absorb hydrocarbons. In addition, the material is extremely reluctant to give up oils it absorbs. This characteristic makes BGP 150 a superior absorbent because it not only absorbs more than the conventional clay materials but it will not leach hydrocarbons once they have been absorbed. BGP 150 contains microbes and nutrients which will consume absorbed hydrocarbons if stored under moist conditions. This process takes from thirty (30) to sixty (60) days. Once the hydrocarbons have consumed, the previously contaminated absorbent is no longer a hazardous waste. Another alternative to disposal is through incineration. Clay absorbents can not be incinerated due to it’s high ash content. The very low ash content of BGP 150 allows, not only for incineration but the combined BTU value of the absorbent and the absorbed hydrocarbons make it an excellent fuel source for boilers used to produce energy (steam, electricity or heat). A 1.5 cu.ft. (17 lbs.) bag of BGP 150 will absorb 100 pounds or 14 gallons of hydrocarbons as compared to 25 pounds or 3.5 gallons per 50 pound bag of clay materials. The lighter weight of this better absorbent can also led to fewer injuries that result from lifting. When carried on vehicles, as a spill response agent, the volume of BGP 150 required to absorb a given amount of hydrocarbons is significantly less than the normal clay products. This allows for better preparedness for a spill, with less weight needing to be carried. BGP 150 should be considered the product of choice when absorbents are needed to clean up spilled hydrocarbons.
