Aircast Walking Braces
The Aircast Walking Braces combine pulsating, graduated compression to help reduce edema, semi-rigid shells to provide protection, custom-inflated aircells that maintain limb contact for stability, and a rocker sole to reduce plantar pressure. The Aircast walking Braces are easy to apply in A&E, doctor’s office and home.
3
Aircast XP Walker Indications
High level of support Stable fractures of the lower leg and ankle Severe ankle sprains Post-op pinning & plating procedures Post cast removal High level of swelling/oedema
4
XP Walker Features/Benefits
Low rocker sole for enhanced comfort & natural ambulation Overlapping semi-rigid shells give maximum support & protection Four aircells give graduated compression offering superior oedema reduction Hand held pump allows for adjustability of aircells for secure support and protection Wider foot bed offers room for dressings
5
Duplex Aircell Technology
Overlapping back aircell provides duplex technology and help reduce edema Front aircell to secure leg in the brace Distal aircell to secure ankle and provide higher distal pressure
6
Aircast XP Walker with Heel Wedges
For post-op TA repair or conservative treatment Designed to be used with XP walker Can also be used with DonJoy walkers 5 heel supports – 3 to be used for treatment 3 heels: 22 degrees 2 heels: 16 degrees 1 heel: 10 degrees
7
Aircast FP Walker Indications
Moderate level of support Stable fractures of the lower leg and ankle Severe ankle sprains Post-op pinning & plating procedures Post cast removal
8
FP Walker Features/Benefits
Cost effective Ergonomic design for ease-of-use and increased compliance Two distal aircells for pneumatic support Semi-rigid shells and hand held pump allow for adjustability of aircells and secure support and protection Wider foot bed offers room for dressings Low rocker sole offers enhanced comfort and promotes natural ambulation
9
Aircast FP Walker Indications
Moderate level of support Limb length or calf circumference prohibits use of standard walker Metatarsal fractures Forefoot and midfoot injury Bunionectomy Soft tissue injury Acute or post-operative use
10
FP Walker Features/Benefits
Short design specifically for injuries/surgeries of the forefoot & midfoot Two distal aircells for pneumatic support Semi-rigid circumferential shell gives secure support and protection Hand held bulb allows for increased adjustability Wider foot bed offers room for dressings Low rocker sole offers enhanced comfort and promotes natural ambulation

Aircast Walker Clinical Data
‘Functional outcome of surgery for fractures of the ankle. A prospective, randomised comparison of management in a cast or a functional brace’ K.A.Egol, R.Dolan, K.J.Koval, Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery 2000 Background - The aim of operative treatment for fractures of the ankle is to allow early movement after stable internal fixation Objective - To assess the functional outcome of the operative treatment of ankle fractures in two postoperative treatment conditions : functional bracing allowing early movement and cast immobilisation Design & Methods - 60 consecutive patients who were undergoing internal fixation of a closed, isolated fracture of the ankle, were, after having been immobilized in a plaster splint for 2-3 days after operation, randomly assigned into 2 treatment groups 1) one group was treated by immobilisation in a below-knee cast 2) the other group was treated by a functional brace with early movement Conclusion - The use of a functional brace and early movement after surgery is beneficial for patients with ankle fracture Key Message - Functional bracing after ankle fracture surgery results in higher functional outcome scores, earlier return to work, and potential cost savings without any complications.

Maxtrax Fixed Walker/ Maxtrax Fixed Ankle Walker Indications
Moderate level of support Stress fractures of the lower leg & ankle/ forefoot & midfoot Soft tissue injuries (grade 2 & 3 sprains) Stable fractures of the lower leg & ankle/ forefoot & midfoot Metatarsal fractures Ankle, forefoot and midfoot injury Bunionectomy Soft tissue injury Acute or post-operative use
13
Maxtrax ROM Walker/ Maxtrax ROM Ankle Walker Indications
Moderate level of support Traumatic injury Post-operative procedures Conditions/protocols favouring range of motion Range of motion settings between 45º plantar-flexion and 30º dorsi-flexion in 7.5º increments Uprights will lock in fixed positions of 0º, 7.5º, 15º, 22.5º and 30º plantar and dorsi-flexion Steel uprights give maximum strength
14
Maxtrax Walkers Features/Benefits
Wider footbed for increased stability and to accommodate bulky dressings Swivelling D-rings allow for crisscross or parallel strapping Cushioned inner/outer sole absorbs shock upon heel strike One piece liner design keeps seams away from post-surgical areas Paediatric to extra large sizing Low profile rocker bottom promotes natural gait Non-slip sole promotes safe ambulation ‘Breakdown’ feature on uprights for shorter legs Steel uprights give maximum strength
15
MC Walker Indications Moderate level of support Soft tissue injuries
Stable fractures of the lower leg & ankle Acute ankle sprains Achilles tendon repairs Conditions/protocols requiring early/reduced range of motion Provides foot & ankle immobilisation 0º, 10º, 20º or 30º of plantar and dorsiflexion
16
MC Walker Features/Benefits
Rocker bottom sole Washable liner 7.5º range of motion increments Low profile Removable heel pads to accommodate oedema Steel uprights for maximum strength 3 sizes
17
Walkabout Indications
Low level of support Acute ankle sprains grade II Soft tissue injuries Stress fractures of the lower leg and ankle Post-cast removal
18
Walkabout Features/Benefits
Lightweight for easy ambulation Rocker bottom to reduce plantar pressures Low profile Economical One piece injection moulded for added durability Integrated straps ensures easy fitting Breathable fibre liner for comfort
19
Key Messages Not all walkers give the same level of support
Different indications for different products Graduated compression is better where oedema is present Circumferential shell offers greater protection Fixed or range of motion is usually a preference of the Surgeon DJO offers a complete range of walkers
20
Competitor Products Vacoped by Oped
Offers ‘a complete fracture management system’ Bean bag vacuum cushion offers complete stabilisation Complicated application process Minimal clinical data
21
Competitor Products Darco ‘Body Armour’ & FX Pro’
Offer protection & compression Small range Walkers reported to be ‘heavy’ No clinical data Compression not graduated
22
