2 What is Digital Citizenship?
“Digital Citizenship is the norms of appropriate, responsible technology use.” As teachers, it is our goal to help students become well rounded and knowledgeable in many areas. Because technology is a huge part of today’s society, we must implement and aid children in becoming good citizens online and “offline”.

4 Digital Access “full electronic participation in society”
Not everyone has the same access to technology or the internet Factors may include: socioeconomic status, school systems and funding, or lack of technology understanding Digital inclusion for everyone is essential for society’s growth

5 Digital Commerce “electronic buying and selling of goods”
Online shopping has grown immensely Examples: Amazon, EBay, Etsy, and iTunes We must be careful when shopping by making sure we are using a trusted website Children should be taught to ask permission before purchasing and never download content

6 Digital Communication
“electronic exchange of information” Communication via technology is very prominent today Examples: iMessgae, , social media Teaching children to never give out personal information about themselves on the internet ensures safety

7 Digital Etiquette “electronic standards of conduct or procedure”
Always be respectful toward others on the internet Cyberbullying is a major issue online through social media Teaching students at a young age about respect for others is important to prevent cyberbullying

8 Digital Law “digital responsibility for actions and deeds”
There are laws for online usage to prevent crimes Examples of breaking digital laws: hacking, downloading music or movies illegally, and stealing identities of others We must teach students early to make smart decisions and abide by the laws while using technology

9 Digital Literacy “process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology” Technology is rapidly growing and becoming more prominent in workplaces, schools, etc. We must teach students at a young age how to use technology so they are more likely to adapt to the ever-changing technology

10 Digital Health and Wellness
“physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology world Technology has a few physical and psychological side effects Examples: eye strain, stress, internet addiction Students should learn to use technology in moderation to prevent harm to their health

11 Digital Rights and Responsibilities
“those freedoms extended to everyone in a digital world” Anyone using the internet and technology has rights Examples: freedom of speech, right to privacy, etc. Students should understand their rights as digital citizens but also understand how and when to express their rights appropriately

12 Digital Security “electronic precautions to guarantee safety” (also known as self-protection) There are many ways to protect ourselves and our technology Examples: having back-up storage, virus protection, never giving out personal information Teaching students to take care of their computers or other technology, as well as their personal information will prevent issues of security if the future
