Fiscal constraints and other factors prevented the creation of another state supported university in Macomb County during 1980’s

MCC knew the county, its residents and their needs better than any other entity that might conceivably undertake that endeavor

20. Next Logical Step – M2O
The purpose of the Dual Enrollment/Dual Degree program is to increase the number of students who successfully complete both an Associate’s degree and a Baccalaureate degree. This goal is accomplished by allowing students to simultaneously earn credits toward both an associate’s degree and a baccalaureate degree, rather than requiring students to enroll separately for an associate’s degree, and then transfer their earned credits toward a baccalaureate degree. How did we get here from there? 20

32. M2O Top Questions Who is eligible for the M2O program?
First year, transfer and current students are eligible for the M2O program. International students, athletes, direct admit nursing students, and those students who hold over 32 credit hours are not eligible for the M2O program.

33. M2O Top Questions How can I become a student in the M2O program?
First year students (first time in ANY college)
Apply as a M2O student through Macomb 2 Oakland Website Send official high school transcripts and ACT scores to Oakland University Office of Admissions. Students must meet all Oakland University academic requirements to gain admission to the M2O program.

34. M2O Top Questions Transfer Students
Transfer students with less than 32 credits and a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average may consider the M2O program. Interested transfer students should first meet with an Oakland University representative from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or the OU at Macomb office housed on Macomb Community College’s center campus. After meeting with a representative, students can apply as a M2O student through the M2O website
For students with 24 or more credits earned, all official transcripts from all colleges/ university attended must be submitted.
For students with less than 24 credits earned, official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended must be submitted in addition to high school transcripts. Admission in this case will be based on both high school and college criteria.

35. M2O Top Questions Current Oakland University Students
A current Oakland University student with less than 32 credit hours may join the M2O program. Current OU students can pick up an M2O update form from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (Rm.101 North Foundation Hall). Once the form is obtained a student must meet with their academic adviser to gain permission to join the program. Once the academic adviser signs the update form, it can be returned to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions for processing. It is highly encouraged to speak with a financial aid representative before joining the M2O program.

36. M2O Top Questions Is there a deadline to apply for the M2O program?
The application deadline for fall enrollment is August 1st, with deadlines for winter falling on December 1st and summer enrollment on April 1st.

37. M2O Top Questions How does financial aid work?
Any student wishing to receive financial aid must fill out the FAFSA form and include Oakland University’s school code (002307). For those students participating in the M2O program, all financial aid is processed through Oakland University and is deducted from the Oakland University bill. If the financial aid awarded is greater than the student’s costs at Oakland University, a refund is issued to the student. Since financial aid is processed through Oakland University, financial aid is not reflected on the Macomb Community College bill. Therefore, students are required to pay their tuition bill at Macomb Community College based on the payment deadline
established by Macomb.

I am receiving a scholarship from Oakland University; can still participate in M2O?
Yes, however, you must enroll in full-time study (12 credit hours) at Oakland University for each semester you receive the scholarship.

If you are a new student at OU, there are special orientation dates set aside for your registration process. These Orientations will cover everything included in an Oakland Orientation. In addition, Academic Advisers from Macomb will be available, as well as specially trained financial aid representatives to answer your M2O financial aid questions. You will receive more information about orientation once you are admitted into the M2O program.

Will I receive a bill for both Oakland University and Macomb Community College?
Yes. Depending upon how many credits you choose to take at each college, your bill will vary. If you take classes at both Macomb and Oakland, you will be billed separately; however, your financial aid award letter will come from Oakland University’s Office of Student Financial Services.
