General information 15 November, 2018 Health sector budget for Ministry of Defense, Police Force not included. The figures compiled by MOHCDGEC from Approved Government supply vote books. Details of budget in Regional Administration and Local Government Authorities not examined. Details are provided in respective MTEFs for MOHCDGEC and Local Government Authorities.

4 Observations An increase of the share of the health budget from 9% in the last financial year to 10% in the current financial year. Nominal increase of the budget to the health sector by 12% compared to 9% in the last financial year. More specifically MOHCDGEC from increase of 2% between 15/16 to 16/17 to 35% in 17/18 while PO RALG an increase has been of 15% between 15/16 and 16/17 while experiencing a decrease of 4% in 17/18 Substantial increase of budget for pharmaceuticals from Tshs 60 billions in 2015/16 to Tshs 251 billions in 2016/17 to further Tshs 260 billions in 17/18. Sudden increase external funding by 127% you will note that for the past three years there was a declining trend. Devaluation of the Tshs and on going inflation continue to impact on the purchasing power. These includes; pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, reagents and equipment.

5 Review of 2016/17 Health budget
World Health Organization Review of 2016/17 Health budget 15 November, 2018 43% percent of government and 8% of external funds has been disbursed as of March 30.

6 Conclusions Government has demonstrated its willingness to increase budget in the health sector There is a change in the trend of external funding by showing an increasing trend.
