2 Agenda/objectives for the day/week
Status check for computer problems 2.11 and These two problems are due this Thursday. Should be developing good appreciation of decay/growth problems (pbs & 2.15). Check for questions regarding these problems and complete some group discussion problems. Note: problems 2.13 and 2.15 are due in my mailbox Tuesday, Feb 12. No class February 12th. Read chapter 3 and look over problems 3.10 and 3.11 (for discussion this Thursday). These two problems will be due next Thursday.

9 Problem 2.13 – Questions?

10 Problem 2.15 due next Tuesday along with problem 2.13
Problem 2.15 deals with another example of exponential (or allometric) models in geology. In this example, the exponential model is used to characterize rate of accumulation of carbonate sediments on a reef. Sedimentation rate p is modeled as where po and Z are constants and z is depth below sea level. Calculate p over the depth range 0 to 20 m for po=3m and Z=20m (use Excel to plot your result). Give an interpretation of the constants po and Z. Tom Wilson, Department of Geology and Geography

11 Finish this up and hand in before leaving today along with the following

12 Hand these two in-class problems in as well before leaving today.

14 Due dates 1) Polish up problems 2.11 and 2.12 and hand in this Thursday 2) 2.13 and 2.15will be due in my mail box by the end of day next Tuesday, Feb. 12. No class next Tuesday Today’s group problems due before leaving today. Read chapter 3 and look over problems 3.10 and 3.11 for discussion this Thursday
