You are to write sentences using the words in front of you You cannot use your book or notes or ask another group or Ms. Mcgurl to describe a term to you Sentences must be compound sentences that describe knowledge of the terms (Ms. Mcgurl will judge) Each correct sentence earns a team a point You must underline the splash word in the sentences Write large to show the class at the end! Example: The Liver is the primary organ affected by alcohol use and misuse.

Studies show that a person who begins drinking as a teen is 4 times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than an adult is.

Alcohol Misuse and Abuse
Is the excessive use of alcohol. 25% of all youth are exposed to family alcohol abuse. These individuals are at a high risk for neglect, abuse, economic hardship, and social isolation. These problems could lead a young person to try alcohol as an escape. Drinking only makes a situation worse.

Binge Drinking Consuming 5 or more drinks in one sitting
DANGER: could lead to fatal dose of alcohol Very common in college students

Teen Alcohol Addiction:
*Children and teens become chemically dependent much faster than adults. (as fast as several weeks or months) __________________________________________ Adolescents who begin drinking before age 15 are 4 times more likely to develop alcohol dependence than those who begin drinking at age 21. AND -A child who reaches age 21 without abusing alcohol or using drugs is virtually certain never to do so.2

Teens Attitude Towards Drinking: Often it’s “Let’s get drunk.” The goal is to get drunk… How many adults do you hear about getting alcohol poisoning?

TEEN ALCOHOL STATSISTICS: *The first brain function you lose under even a small amount of alcohol is __judgment__. *60% of all fatal car accidents involve alcohol.3 *68% of all drownings involve alcohol.4 *Drinkers are 16 x more likely to die in a fall.

Compared to nondrinkers, teen binge drinkers were5:
(5 drinks in a row for boys, 4 for girls) ・11 times more likely to ride with a driver who had been drinking alcohol ・4 times more likely to be in a physical fight ・Nearly 4 times more likely to have ever been raped or subjected to dating violence ・More than 5 times more likely to be sexually active ・4 times more likely to have attempted suicide -Teen binge drinkers were also more likely to use other drugs. (Binge=5 drinks in a row for boys + 4 in a row for girls)
