1 Knights Charge 2/5 What were three reasons that helped the US be an industrial nation? What was the Bessemer Process? What was urbanization? Where did many working class people live in these cities? What national park was created to help protect the environment?

11 Trusts Trust- companies combine their stock in order to gain profit for all involved Formed so that just a few people could control all of the industries and reduce competition.

13 Robber Barons These men were known as Robber Barons (industrial leader of great wealth) People disagreed with some of their business practices Felt the men mistreated their workers and took advantage of the situation to get ahead.

14 Social Darwinism Some believed that wealth was only for those who were most “fit” People used Social Darwinism to justify how only the strong were able to become rich

Gospel of Wealth- theory that the wealthy have a moral obligation to help the poor providing them opportunities to better themselves

Standard Oil was a trust that gave Rockefeller control of nearly 90% of the nation’s oil industry
