Alabama Marine Resources Division Aquaculture Siting Tool
Brief Tutorial on how to use the application and what function each icon performs. This application is not intended for navigation purposes and is intended to aid people interested in Oyster Aquaculture find a suitable location. For this purpose, many different layers have been made available to aid in the placement of potential aquaculture sites.

Layer List: List of all layers
Map Legend: Displays only the layers visible at the current scale of the map. Zoom Buttons Returns to Default View Extent Find My Location Layer List: List of all layers Used in the Application, Visible layers appear dark while not visible layers are light grey Geographic Coordinates Of your Cursor Scale Bar

Filter Tool: Allows the user
Draw: Allows the user the ability to draw lines, polygons points, text to the map. The user can change the color, transparency level, line width, units of measure. Measure Tool Filter Tool: Allows the user The ability to sort information within a variety of layers to display information that may be important to their project or further assist in the placement of the aquaculture project. Click on the sprocket to expand the filter for use. Click beside the sprocket to Make the filter active. Filters remain Active until it is unselected and only that Information will be displayed. Print Tool: Allows you to choose a format (PDF, JPEG, TIFF) and change the layout of the images printed (portrait/Landscape), you change title, add an author, change the map scale, etc… Attribute Table: Click on the Icon To open the attribute tables. Click On the Icon again to close the Table Base Maps: Allows you to choose from One of four base maps

Map Overview: Click on the “Eye” Icon to reveal the extent within the current View of the map. Click it again and the Overview map goes away. Click the Bracket Ican within the Overview To expand it, click it again to minimize the map This line is an anchor point by Which the user can extend or Retract the height of the table. Table Tabs for Individual Layers Attribute Table: Click on the Icon To open the attribute tables. Click On the Icon again to close the Table The Table appears at the bottom of the screen and the user can select the tabs for the Layer they are interested into reveal information about that layer. The default for the attribute table is to only display the features/layers in the current view of the map, users can deselect this by clicking on The “Filter by Map Extent” tab. The “Options” tab allows users the ability to create a custom filter based upon the information present in the table to allow the user the ability to Only display the information they have interest that is present within the table layer. The columns can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column header in the table.

As the user zooms in on a particular area or reef, more information is revealed.

•As we continue to zoom in more layers become visible in the view. You can see the pop-up window that displays attribute data about the various layers when you click on the map. • You can see that the ADPH Oyster Management Zones layer has been turned off and a layer that depicts the summer water temperatures for this area have been turned on. You can see in the Legend what the dark blue color represents. • In the middle of the screen a green polygon has been added using the “Draw” tool and the area measurements for the polygon are displayed in acres and perimeter measurements displayed in feet. If the user clicks with a the mouse on a layer, information about this layer will appear: Here you can see that the SAV layer has been selected and the information regarding species, habit, and area are displayed. If you were To click on a parcel, the Owners name and address would appear in the pop-up dialogue box.
