What do we Recycle?
Textiles (gently used household items to include books, clothing, housewares, blankets, toys, etc.)
Electronics (working and non-working)
Batteries (alkaline only)
Recyclables (paper, plastics, glasses, etc.)
How Much do we Recycle?
In 2009, in addition to sold clothing, we sent over 125 TONS of textiles, 56 tons of electronics, and 1.4 tons of batteries out for recycling. 4

The Y Thrift Shops are a great place to shop and donate your gently used clothing, furniture, books, housewares, electronics and more! Our thrift shops accept all household items that are then sold or recycled. All proceeds remain local and support leadership development and community programs within the NRV. We have the largest collection of used books in the region. Children's, mystery, fiction, textbooks... you'll find it all at the Y Thrift Shops

Features
ROPER SOLAR GREENHOUSE
Named for its designer L. David Roper, the Roper Solar Greenhouse is used by community members to grow food all winter. Extra produce is taken to the Interfaith Food Pantry.
GARDEN SPACE
We rent three sizes of garden spots for your organic garden growing. Currently we host about 72 gardeners from 17 different countries. New gardeners can to get on the waiting list. 8

Description
Be a part of the Y’s premier student-led sustainability initiative, helping the Virginia Tech community keep gently-used furnishings out of the landfill and affordably into the hands of incoming students who need them. Each year, volunteer student leaders will plan and implement Ytoss Collection in May and the Ytoss Sale in August, to benefit our various programs. 10
