Questions for tonight: What are the programs and services offered in Somers to best prepare students and families for the road ahead? What are the short-term and long-term forecasts for financing a pubic or private college education? What are the relative costs for in-state and out of state public universities? What are the typical payment options, and how can we best prepare for this significant future investment?

Primary goals of our program

Our program design, grades 9-10:
9th Grade = Academic transition and establishment. Students will design their four year plan, and chart their academic course. They will learn about self-care and care for their school community through programs focused on transition, mental health and stress management. 10th Grade = Building greater understanding of abilities and interests. Students are exposed to greater academic choice and will begin to connect academics to potential career interests and values through a Career Interest Profile. Students will also be invited to attend a career fair at BOCES, and experience their first taste of standardized testing with the Pre-ACT.

Our program design, grade 11:
11th Grade = Beginning formal preparations for the transition beyond high school. In junior year, students are introduced to their junior year testing calendar and PSAT registration. Junior College Night helps parents and students of all grade levels wishing to attend to understand how the admissions process works, and what tasks will need to be accomplished to be best prepared for applications. Preparations in junior year also include Financial Aid Night, Individual Junior Conferences, College Admissions visits, Career Professional visits, College Fairs, and Pre-Summer Junior College Night.

Our program design, grade 12:
12th Grade = Preparations and plans are finalized for each student’s next step. Programs include the Senior College Night, individual senior meetings, Naviance workshops for parents, Naviance and Common App presentations for students, Mock College Interview Night, an Alumni Presentation to Seniors, continued opportunities to meet with college admissions representatives and career professionals, and individual counselor meetings to weigh decisions.
