21 What is Bosnia and Herzegovina?
Bosnia and Herzegovina is the heart shaped country located in the south-east of Europe with a long history. Bosnia means running water, named after ist abundant freshwater rivers, streams and springs. Herzeg(Duke) Stephan who was the prominent medieval ruler of the Southern Bosnian lands. Herzegovina literally means the land belonging to the duke.

22 Bosnian History Bosnia has been conquered many times:
Romans, Byzantine Empire, and Slavs. Biggest conquest by Ottomans 1463 Austro-Hungarian empire 1878 WW1 started in Sarajevo Joined Kingdom of Yugoslavia after WW1 Invaded by Nazi Germany in WW2 After WW2 joined Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia Gained independence March 1992, war started 3 days later War against Croatia and Serbia lasted until 1995 WW1 assasination of Duke Ferdinand of Austria During WW2 many Bosnian Jews killed by Nazis After WW2 led by Josep Broz Tito until his death in 1980 Balkan War began when European Muslims were declared wrong in Europe and attacks began on all Bosnian Muslims
