Program Review CTE

Program Review CTE CTE programs are asked to provide additional data in Program Review. We are asked to provide information about trends in employment, Perkins Grant assessment, analysis of degrees and certificates awarded and Advisory Board meetings. The purpose of this presentation is to review each of those areas, where you can obtain information and sample analysis. You are asked to: Explain how your program meets a documented labor market demand without unnecessary duplication of other training programs in the area. Summarize student outcomes in terms of degrees and certificates. Identify areas of accomplishments and areas of concern. Review and update the program’s Advisory Committee information. Provide the date of most recent advisory committee meeting.

Program Review CTE State of California Employment Development Department, Labor Market Information Division (the official source for California Labor Market Information): As a source of information the EDD data is more difficult to sort through. The information is there but it is more difficult to find. Here are some useful links: EDD highlights: Local Employment data Occupation Profile: ?careerID=&menuChoice=&geogArea= &soccode=132011&search =Explore+Occupation

Program Review CTE We offer the following certificates: Certificate of Achievement in Accounting, and six Certificates of Specialization (Accounting Assistant; CPA Exam Preparation: Financial Accounting and Auditing; CPA Exam Preparation: Business Environment and Regulation; Enrolled Agent Exam Preparation; Tax Preparer I; and Tax Preparer II). These programs are detailed in the Program Description.  We believe our programs are successful given the growth in the number of students in our classes. We are now partnering with the Strong Workforce Development Grant to fund videos to better advertise, promote and explain our varied curriculum. We also advertise jobs in accounting on a continual basis. Our students successfully transition to four year universities, graduate programs in Accounting, and jobs in industry and government.  Based on the data below the job market for Accountants continues to be strong.

Typical Entry-Level Education Work Experience in a Related Occupation
Program Review CTE Explain how the program meets a documented labor market demand. The following information is provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics at 2017 Median Pay $69,350 per year $33.34 per hour Typical Entry-Level Education Bachelor's degree Work Experience in a Related Occupation None On-the-job Training Number of Jobs, 2016 1,397,700 Job Outlook, 10% (Faster than average) Employment Change, 139,900 :

Program Review CTE The Program Market Demand Report prepared by our District offers support of strong job growth in our 5 county region. “In an average month, there were 6,952 unique job postings for 10 different Accounting related jobs with 4,680 actually hired. This means there was approximately 1 hire for every 1 unique job posting.” “Job postings in this category were 9% above the national average. There was a 9.5% increase in the total number of jobs with annual openings of 11, 996 jobs. Median hourly wage was $29.16 this includes jobs requiring a bachelor’s degree or no degree at all.” It was interesting to note that the top hiring companies were Temporary and Job Search firms with Robert Half being the largest. This may have something to do with the challenging labor market we are in right now.

Program Review CTE Employment data (by Program Top Code) from the State Chancellor’s Office: e.aspx Based on the Perkins data we are meeting or exceeding our goals across the five Core areas Skill Attainment, Competence, Persistence, Employment and Non traditional employment. We appear to be weakest in supporting students with disabilities and students with limited English proficiency primarily in the areas on employment and non traditional employment. The issue seems to be in completion of the program. We need to further investigate why these students are withdrawing from our programs at a higher level. We have identified this as something we will investigate as part of our SLO review this year.

Program Review CTE Summarize student outcomes in terms of degrees and certificates. Identify areas of accomplishments and areas of concern The majority of our students in Financial and Managerial Accounting are planning to transfer. They may not obtain a Transfer degree so it's difficult to track this. We also have many students who are taking our CPA prep courses who complete the course work but do not apply for the Certificate. We believe the Certificates are an important Marketing Tool for our programs. Students see them and choose to take courses from us to obtain the skills necessary for job advancement. Although the number of students obtaining a certificate or degree is interesting it is in no way indicative of the number of students enrolled in our programs. As stated earlier the certificate programs are excellent marketing tools that show prospective students the array of classes we offer and the various career opportunities available. Our Degree/Certificate programs are successful. In Accounting a total of 656 degrees and certificates were awarded. In the Accounting Assistant program 316 certificates were awarded and 14 students received Enrolled Agent Certificates.

Program Review CTE Informal discussions with members of our board indicated their support with our programs and support for expanding course offerings. They are also supportive of our efforts to ensure our students are job ready through our certificate programs. We do meet with industry professionals at our campus wide Meet the Firm Night. All Accounting faculty spend time with the various professionals in attendance discussing potential job/internship opportunities for our students, recommended changes/adjustments to our curriculum and how our students can better offer support to them.
