4. Admission Process and Timeline
Application Deadlines
Online application is now open
December 15: Application deadline for prestige scholarship applications
March 1: Application deadline for all applicants
Note: ASAP Application is from February 1- May 15

5. Transcript Deadlines
January 15: Transcript deadline for prestige scholarship applicants
March 15: Initial transcript deadline for applicants residing in Canada and the US
June 1: Final transcript deadline for applicants with post-secondary courses
August 1: Final transcript deadline for applicants with high school courses

6. What is the Indigenous Admission Process?
The Indigenous Admission Process provides self-identified Indigenous students with an alternate process for admission consideration to their chosen program or faculty.

7. Indigenous Admission Process
Students are first considered using standard admission criteria
Admission is specific to each program, but all programs will require Alberta English 30-1 (or equivalent) and four other faculty specific 30 level courses (or equivalent).
If a student identifies as Indigenous on their application for admission they will automatically receive consideration under the Indigenous Admissions Process if needed.

8. Who is eligible for this process?
Any student who self-identifies on the application for admission as:
First Nations (status or non-status)
Métis
Inuit

9. Accepting an Offer of Admission
Admitted students will be asked to:
Accept the offer of admission
Pay a $500 admission deposit (applied toward tuition fees)
Note: The admission deposit is waived for band funded students
Submit documentation to verify their Indigenous identify prior to registering for courses. Students can submit their proof of status by:
a copy of their First Nation, Inuit, or Métis status card to
Contact the Native Center for support on alternative ways of verifying their status

10. Picking a program Students can choose to apply for two program choices
If a student is offered admission for their 1st choice, that will be the only offer of admission they receive
If the student is offered their 2nd choice, their 1st choice will still be considered
Accepting or declining their 2nd choice will not impact their 1st choice application

11. When will decisions be made
There are two admission processes
Early Admission: November 15 to April 30
Standard Admission: November 15 to May 31
Most offers will be made by May
A final round of offers may be made in July if space is still available

12. Early Admission: Nov 15 to April 30
Admission average calculated using four Grade 11 approved courses
If Grade 12 courses are completed, they will be used to calculate admission average

13. Standard Admission: Nov 15- May 31
Admission average calculated using five Grade 11 or Grade 12 courses
At least one Grade 12 approved course is required
We accept interim grades for students in linear schools

15. Aboriginal Student Access Program (ASAP)
The ASAP program is a transition-year program that provides an opportunity for students to take university level credit courses to improve academic success and transition students to faculty based programs.
The program consists of first-year university classes, as well as supports such as advising, cultural support, peer support and tutorials.
Upgrading classes may be taken through UCalgary Continuing Education (or other upgrading programs) in conjunction with ASAP university courses.
ASAP students qualify for government student loans as well as other sources of funding.

16. Aboriginal Student Access Program (ASAP)
Students should have a minimum of Grade 12 English (Alberta Education English 30-1 or equivalent) with a 65% or better. Students need to provide transcripts from high school, upgrading and other post-secondary programs. An intake interview is conducted to determine student goals, to ensure prerequisites will be met for their target programs, and to conduct some preliminary assessment.

Offered annually to undergraduate students enrolled in:
Faculty of Science;
Faculty of Nursing;
Faculty of Kinesiology,
Schulich School of Engineering;
Haskayne School of Business (B.Comm),
Cumming School of Medicine (MD Program, BHSc or BCR),
Faculty of Social Work
Werklund School of Education (BEd).
Canadian aboriginal student; Status Indian/First Nations, Non-Status Indian/First Nations, Metis, or Inuit (applicants must provide a copy of proof of Indigenous ancestry)
Alberta resident and Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident, or Protected Person under Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
