Direct Statement: written description of map distance Example: One inch equals ten miles, one centimeter equals one kilometer. Graphic Scale: a line marked with distance Example:

Large Scale Maps: Shows a lot of detail of an area. (City streets, parks, businesses, etc.) Small Scale Maps: Less detailed, may show large features like highways. Small Scale Large Scale
