cognates Information about each cognate posted on student resource site The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) offers endorsements “on top of” an existing teaching license. It is an additional credential. A cognate is not a CDE endorsement. Endorsements typically require 24 credit hours in that specialization area. However, CLD, SpEd, and GT cognate courses can be applied toward an endorsement if you choose to pursue one.
