Why Track Statistical Information
To create key metrics that management can use to analysis the performance of the company
8
Examples of Statistical Data
- Number of Employees - Square Footage - Number of Patients - Number of Customers - Number of SalesPeople - Number of Transactions
9
Types of Accounts Posting Accounts Unit Accounts Variable Allocation Accounts Fixed Allocation Accounts
10
Definition of an Unit Account
Unit Accounts or statistical accounts are similar to posting accounts but are used to keep track of non-financial data.
11
Unit Accounts - Usage You can use unit accounts to compare financial and nonfinancial information. You can also use them with posting accounts to calculate information such as sales per employee. Use unit accounts with variable allocation accounts to allocate amounts such as rent expense to each department based on its square footage
12
Characteristics of Unit Accounts
Tracks quantities vs currencies One-sided Journal Entries Able to setup and track a budget for each account
13
Characteristics of Unit Accounts
Can be set up to close at year-end or roll foward (starting in GP2013) Can be used with Variable Allocation Accounts Use in MR or FRx to perform calculations on financial statements
14
Schema for Unit Accounts
Must have a number/character like the rest of your Chart of Accounts Best Practices: - Group together in COA (i.e. All 8000 as natural segment) - All unit accounts start with the U character
