5. Nap Process Begins
Kick-off workshop in February 2015 using GIZ SNAP Tool to conduct a stocktaking of ongoing and previous adaptation actions
Initiation and launch of the NAP process, including briefing state and non-state stakeholders about the risks from a variable and changing climate and how the NAP process can help address these.

6. How was Nap Document Developed?
To lay the groundwork for the NAP process a participatory snapshot of needs as well as current and intended capacities was undertaken in 2015

8. Nap Consultation Deepens
Extensive review of existing documentation (policies, plans, studies, reports etc.) on climate scenarios, vulnerabilities, risks and adaptation options for Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
9 sectoral workshops (agriculture, water, tourism, infrastructure, health, fisheries/MPA, forestry, coastal zone management and Carriacou/PM) to develop sector plans with prioritized actions.

9. Process climaxed
One final national consultation with 67 stakeholders to add costing and responsibilities, plus final editing of text and discussion on the NAP’s vision.

10. Grenada’s Nap Process- Timeline
Nap Kick Off Workshop took place
in 2015 with the Ministry of the Environment leading the process
Participation was received from over 160 stakeholders (60% male/ 40% female participation)
Participants came from the Public Sector & Non-State Actors which included: Line ministries, departments and agencies, SOE’s, Statutory Bodies.
NGO’s, CBOs, Private Sector Companies, private citizens, Academia, Research Institutes, Women and Youth Groups

11. Grenada’s Nap Process Guidance
Continuous guidance and oversight from National Climate Change Committee
The process was guided by the 2012 UNFCCC ‘Technical guidelines for the national adaptation plan process’.
Grenada also received support for the NAP process from the Government of Germany through the ICCAS project executed by GIZ.

12. Principles followed
Grenadian Ownership: To be Grenada-owned and Grenada-driven, through applying a participatory and consultative process.
SIDS-specific: To recognise human and financial capacity constraints, and adopt an approach that works within these circumstances
NAP as an instrument to mobilize financial resources to compensate unchecked emissions of greenhouse gases by large emitters.

13. Principles Followed
Mainstreaming/ Integration: To not only integrate sectors in a national adaptation plan, but climate change adaptation considerations into the sectors, which are budgeted for and implemented.
Pre-cautionary principle: Uncertainty should not be used as a reason to not take action.
Remain flexible: To monitor, evaluate, report and iterate.

17. Grenada Nap Aims to:
(i) take a medium- and long-term approach to reducing vulnerability to the adverse effects of climate change
(ii) facilitate the integration of climate change adaptation, in a coherent manner, into relevant new and existing policies, programmes and activities, in particular development planning processes and strategies, within all relevant sectors and at different levels, as appropriate.
