Congress has the power to impeach the president Impeach = to formally accuse the president of crimes If the House votes to impeach, the Senate puts the President on trial The Senate becomes the jury If found guilty, the president is removed from office FYI: Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were both impeached by the House but acquitted by the Senate (which means they were not removed from office) Jackson – Violating the Tenure of Office Act Clinton – Perjury and Obstruction of Justice Richard Nixon resigned before he could be impeached
