1 Bloomington Area Career Center
Today’s Students… Tomorrow’s Professionals

2 BACC History The Bloomington Area Career Center has been in existence for over 40 years and has provided high school juniors and seniors from 16 high schools throughout McLean – DeWitt County Career & Technical Education Training in 17 programs. I do not like the title of the slides at the bottom. I find it confusing. Ask someone else, I might be weird.

3 Programs Offered at the BACC
Fire Science (New in 2010) Marketing & Management Construction Trades Computerized Architecture Design Civil Engineering Cisco Networking Culinary Arts Cosmetology Digital Media Early Childhood Care & Education Employment Prep/Internship Metal Workings Occupation A+ Computer Repair/Digital Electronics Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement Health Occupations Marketing and Fire Science? You could add them and not say that they are coming next year, or put them on this list with the next year in ( ) or you could put them on another slide, but I would add them.

4 Common Misconceptions
All of these programs are for students in Special Education These programs are only for those students going to a technical college or into the workforce right after high school. I especially do not like the title for this at the bottom because it doesn’t stand out enough and then w/ that first line, it could be a little dicey. Then I would either not put the explanation on there (they have to listen to you) or I would but it directly below with another bullet indented. I would also add that our programs are only for those going to a tech. college or going into the workforce right after high school.

5 Business Partnerships
McLean County Community COMPACT CAT (Peoria) Geek-a-Byte CTB, Inc. Illinois State University U.S. Cellular Coliseum State Farm Insurance OSF St. Joseph’s Medical Center Bromenn Medical Center Bloomington, Normal, ISU Police Dept. Surrounding Fire Departments You would be able to add the fire departments as well.

6 Student Leadership Opportunities
SkillsUSA A national non-profit student organization that serves students enrolled in career and technical education programs at our nation’s public high schools and colleges. SkillsUSA has developed nearly 8 million workers through active partnerships between employers and educators. SkillsUSA has nearly 13,000 school chapters and serves more than 266,000 members annually and 14,500 instructors and administrators are professional members of SkillsUSA How has this program helped students at the BACC? Will you talk about that 

7 8th Grade Career Expo

8 Why is this important to you?
Students in CTE programs at the BACC are entering the workforce sooner because of the training and skills that they receive in their programs of study. CTE students will be your colleagues or clients at an earlier age as well since most businesses are recruiting our students from the BACC and providing them tuition assistance to continue their college education and providing them internship & employment opportunities. Is this because they are not getting any post-secondary education? That is what I think when I read this slide.

9 Conclusion The students of the Bloomington Area Career Center have a lot to offer the working community of Bloomington/Normal and beyond. They can also compete with any 1st or 2nd year college student with regards to possessing the necessary skills to be an effective employee of any major corporation. After all, these are the students that will be some of our future community leaders!
