Protect Yourself Avoid the sun from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This is when the sun rays are strongest. Wear a hat with a wide brim all the way around that shades the neck, ears, eyes, and head. Buy only sunglasses that offer % UV protection. Apply a water-resistant sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher 15 to 30 minutes before going outside. Use products that provide broad-spectrum protection from both UVA and UVB rays.

Stay Hydrated During hot weather, you will need to increase your fluid intake. Don't wait until you're thirsty to drink. Avoid liquids that contain alcohol or large amounts of sugar- these actually cause you to lose more body fluid. During heavy exercise in a hot environment, drink 2-4 glasses (16-32 oz) of cool fluids each hour. If your doctor generally limits the amount of fluid you drink or has you on water pills, ask how much you should drink while the weather is hot.
4
Keep Cool Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing made from tightly woven fabric. Stay in the shade or indoors (in an air-conditioned place if possible). Spending a few hours in air conditioning can help your body stay cooler when you need to get back into the heat. Taking a cool shower/bath or moving to an air-conditioned place is the best way to cool off. Use your stove and oven less to maintain a cooler temperature in your home.
5
Avoid Artificial Tanning
Sunlamps and tanning beds emit UV radiation and can be as dangerous as tanning outdoors. Tanning pills have a color additive that turns your skin orange after you take them. The large amount of color additive in tanning pills may be harmful. Sunless tanning lotions, creams, and spray-on products are not sunscreen lotions and will not protect your skin from the sun.
