2 Au·to·ma·tion ˌôdəˈmāSH(ə)n/ noun
the use of largely automatic equipment in a system of manufacturing or other production process. In other words, Automation can be defined as the technology by which a process or procedure is performed without human assistance.

3 The “First” form of Automation
Jacques de Vaucanson (left) invented the first automated loom in Richard Arkwright (right) invented the first “fully” automatic spinning mill later on in The spinning mill was powered by water called a water frame.

5 Automation through the years
Houdina Radio Control created the first driverless car that moved through radio transmitted signals sent to an antenna on top of the car. Ralph Teeter invented cruise control and Chrysler was the first company to use them in their cars. Driverless Citroen DS tested with mounted cables.

6 S.C.A.R.A. (1979) Sankyo Seiki presented the Selective Compliance Assembly Robot arm. It was the robot that influenced assembly line production. Pathfinder exploratory aircraft lands on Mars with Sojourner, the first rover.

7 2000’s - Now In the past 18 years, there have been many enhancements and breakthroughs in Automation. Starting in 2000, 742,000 automated industrial robots being used worldwide. In 2004 The DARPA challenge started amongst automotive companies to produce the best of the best autonomous technology. In 2006, Watson, an IBM answering computer defeats a Jeopardy champion. In 2011, Siri happens, and in 2016 there was a breakthrough with Drones, portable flying vehicle that could be automatic or manually controlled. 8 The future of Automation
The future of automation seems very bright for the industry. Since the industry is getting much larger, there are a lot more job openings. By 2021 global transportation companies Uber and Lyft are promising fully autonomous vehicles on the roads and by the 2030’s there is a predicted mass deployment of fully autonomous vehicles.
