1 UAV’s integration into Civilian Controlled Airspace
- The Perspective of UAV Manufacturers

2 AGENDA Current Status of UAV’s in South Africa
International Developments in UAV’s Challenges in the RSA UAV Environment The Manufacturers Perspective 5. Open Discussion

3 1. Current Status of UAV’s in South Africa
Denel has been manufacturing and safely operating UAV for over the past 38 years Has a developed and a growing UAV’s Manufacturing Sector Amongst the first countries to promulgate UAV (RPAS) Regulations in the world. Amongst the first countries to adopt the UAV (RPAS) Technology for commercial use (Currently over R2 billion market) OPPORTUNITY FOR NEW ECONOMIC SECTOR WITH SOUTH AFRICANS AS LEADER IN ALL AREAS, IF HANDLED SENSIBLY Denel Dynamics Paramount Group Aerial Monitoring Solutions ALTI UAS Haevic Passerine Aircraft Corporation

4 1. Current Status of UAV’s in South Africa
NOTE: Estimated informal turnover 6 times more than formal turnover Estimated UAV’s more close to 20 times the estimated commercial UAV’s Estimated formal Jobs is close to 10x the formal jobs

5 2. INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENTS IN UAV’S
Urban Mobility Air Vehicles Unmanned Cargo Aircraft Balloon Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

6 3. CHALLENGES IN THE RSA UAV ENVIRONMENT
Industry says Onerous UAV regulations: Public liability insurance R500,000 for each UAV Pilots re-tested every year including medicals Drone Operations Staff Complement Drone registration limited to one site Rapid Growth in UAV Service Demand The RSA RPAS (UAV) Regulations RSA UAV Operational Environment Air Navigation Infrastructure High Mid –Air Collision Risk Standards & Procedures Rapid Growth in UAV Aircraft

7 4. UAV MANUFACTURERS PERSPECTIVE
The Country needs a National UAV Integration Programme Driven in a collaborative manner between the stakeholders - Air Space Users - ATNS (Air Navigation Service - SACAA (Regulator) - UAV Aircraft Manufacturers - Air Navigation Equipment Manufacturers 3. Driven in a phased approach to enable Commercial UAV operations, while minimizing the identified risks

8 4. UAV MANUFACTURERS PERSPECTIVE
- An 18 Year, 3 phased Programme addressing very specific issues that enable Safe UAV Operations in Civilian Controlled Airspace.

9 5. DISCUSSION AND WAY FORWARD
