2 1st PILLAR -- SHAHADAH

3 1st PILLAR -- SHAHADAH The Shahadah is the Islamic profession of monotheism It also states that Mohammed was God’s (Allah) messenger (prophet) “There is no other god, but Allah and Mohammed (pbuh) is His prophet.

4 2nd PILLAR -- SALAT FAJR DHUHR ASR MAGHRIB ISHA’A

5 2nd PILLAR -- SALAT THE 5 DAILY PRAYERS Fajr is performed at dawn.
Dhuhr is performed at noon. Asr is performed in the afternoon. Maghrib is performed at sunset Isha’a is performed in the evening. Before prayers, a Muslim is expected to cleanse themselves (WUDU). Worshippers always face Mecca

6 3rd PILLAR -- ZAKAT ALMSGIVING
Muslims are expected to donate 2.5% of their wealth to charity. Those who are financially unable to give money must compensate in other ways (good deeds/behaviour) Purpose is to ease the hardships of others and eliminate inequality

7 4th PILLAR -- SAWM RITUAL FASTING
Most notably during the Islamic month of Ramadan (fast [marital relations and food] for 30 days from sunrise to sunset) Every Muslim over the age of 11 Elderly, sick, pregnant are exempt Shows devotion to God, atones for past sins, and reminds them of the needy

8 5th PILLAR -- HAJJ Pilgrimage to Mecca
Every Muslim is expected to make the Hajj at least once in their life The actions performed during the Hajj commemorate the actions of Ibrahim, Hagar, and Ishmael

9 5th PILLAR -- HAJJ Walk counter-clockwise 7 times around the Kabah
Run back and forth between the hills of al-Safa and al-Marwah Drink from the Zamzam well Stand vigil on the plains of Mount Arafat Stone the Devil (throw stones at 3 walls)
