Class of 2022 Pinecrest High School Registration Process & Transition Information

PHS School Day The school day begins at 8:45 AM.
Block schedule: 4 classes each day, per semester and each class is 90 minutes in length. Three 30 minute lunch sections within third block. Transition time between classes is five minutes. Attendance – up to 8 absences per semester per class Grades: Semester -1st & 2nd quarter – 37.5% each + EOC/NC finals- 25% = 100% Be involved: athletics, clubs (36), theatre, marching band, dances, driver’s ed, newspaper and more!

Quick Glance at MCS Diploma Requirements
English – 4 credits Mathematics – 4 credits Social Studies – 4 credits Science – 3 credits Health & Physical Education – 1 credit Electives – 12 credits (2 foreign language credits are needed if a student is attending a four year college immediately after high school) The MCS diploma requirement is 28 credits

What makes a registration form complete?
Clearly write in your student information with your student ID number Select ONE of each: English, Math, Science & Social Studies course (Freshmen are NOT allowed to double up on core classes) Select THREE elective courses Select THREE alternate courses Initial & write alternatives in pencil You & your parent/guardian must sign form

What are the main differences between standard, honors and AP level courses?
Standard – This curriculum follows the 9th grade standards and the assignments that are required. (year long math) Honors – This curriculum follows the 9th grade standards and has increased depth of content. Theses courses require advanced reading lists and writing assignments, and independent study project. (pre-AP for World & ELA) Advanced Placement (AP) – These is a college-level curriculum course. An AP exam is administered in May and depending on your score, you could potentially also earn college credit depending on the college.

Selecting Core Classes
You must get each of your current core teachers to highlight and initial to the right of the core class level that they recommend You must initial to the left the course that you select (your parent/guardian should have input in this decision). Please initial in pencil. If you feel that you should be in a higher level course than your teacher recommends, you must complete a waiver form – see your teacher or Mrs. Errickson

What is an alternate course and why do I have to pick three?!?!
Write in Pencil Alternate courses are those courses that you wouldn’t mind being in if you can’t be placed into one of your top three elective classes You must pick three because, as a freshman, there is a chance that you won’t get ANY of your top three selections. Write in pencil. Unfortunately, as a freshman, you’re at the bottom of barrel when it comes to enrollment priority

PHS Registration Forms Due: Thursday, March 22nd
Complete Student Information Section (write legibly!!) Student initials in pencil next to course selections: 4 core & 3 elective courses Course recommendations from ALL current core teachers Write down 3 alternate courses in pencil (Side 2) Signed and dated by student (Side 2) Signed and dated by parent/guardian (Side 2)
