2 Photosynthesis is: The process through which plants make their own food through a chemical change.

3 *A chemical Reaction takes place-
Light is converted to chemical energy (food) It is the means by which Sunlight becomes usable to living things

4

5

6 1. The chloroplast –has chlorophyll in it (the chemical that makes plants green).
Chlorophyll allows the plant to absorb radiant energy or sunlight.

7 2. The stomata – these are the
pores that release oxygen and take in carbon dioxide.

8

9

10

11 Chlorophyll then Mixes the sunlight with water & carbon dioxide

12 3. Chlorophyll processes these ingredients to make
sugar (plant food) and oxygen.

13

14

15 Respiration- The process by which the chemical energy of "food" molecules is used and changed into ATP “energy”.

16 Mitochondria- Organelles which converts the energy stored in glucose (sugar) into ATP for the cell. How the body uses the energy in glucose!

20 Photosynthesis Respiration
1. Food is made 1. Food is used 2. Energy from the sun is stored in glucose 2. Energy from the glucose is released 3. Carbon dioxide taken in 3. Carbon dioxide given off 4. Oxygen given off 4. Oxygen taken in 5. Only in the light 5. Occurs day and night 6. Only in plants (in chlorophyll) 6. Occurs in all living cells
