Homework: Study for Chapter 7 Test Warm Up: Brainstorm with your shoulder partner different types of PRECIPITATION
2
Goal for Today SWBAT demonstrate an understanding of the different forms of precipitation by describing the formation of rain, freezing rain, sleet, hail and snow.
3
Types of Precipitation
4
Rain Rain Ice crystals up high, water droplets down lowerwarmer air below melts it into water
6
Freezing Rain Ice crystals up highmelt in warmer aircold air close to the ground causes water to freeze when it lands
9
Sleet Ice crystals up highmelt in thin layer of warm air high above the groundcold air above ground causes rain to freeze before it hits the ground
13
Ice crystals fall from clouds all the way down in cold air
Snow Ice crystals fall from clouds all the way down in cold air
16
Hail Strong winds blow upward in a cloud, blowing ice crystals back up into the cloud and making them freeze again. They get blown over and over again, freezing multiple layers of ice onto the outside until they become too heavy and fall to the ground
