WHY do we have a building code? … we have the building code in order to PROMOTE PUBLIC SAFETY via uniform building standards … and also to provide access to all In Ontario, the building code was implemented in: 1975 First Canadian Place in Toronto was built in the same year Module 8 ARCH – Architectural Studio 2

3 The OBC has an entire section of DEFINITIONS… what a great resource!
Did you know that any word that you see written in italics can be found in this section? FOR EXAMPLE: Roof gutter means an exterior channel installed at the base of a sloped roof to convey storm sewage. Storm sewage means water that is discharged from a surface as a result of rainfall, snow melt or snowfall. Module 8 ARCH – Architectural Studio 2
