2 Our Mission The Arc of DC promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

3 Our History Began services in 1950
Served infants, children, youth, and adults Served individuals through sheltered workshops vocational programs residential programs advocacy legislation

4 Who We Are Now Primarily serve youth and adults Primary services are
Currently serving over 175 individuals across all programs Primary services are youth transition vocational programs Committed to person-centered thinking and advocacy through all program activities

5 Community Based Instruction
Serve junior high and high school youth transitioning from high school to independent living Learn daily living skills Utilize skills through practical application in community settings and the classroom

6 Ability One Federal contracts Employ individuals with I/DD
Individuals learn and practice skills Individuals build work experience Goal is for individuals to transition to less supportive work environment

7 Mail and Storage Services
Local businesses and federal agencies Employ individuals to complete mail orders and store materials Involves inventory management, mail packaging, order management, warehouse safety, equipment management

8 Specialisterne Program
Serve individuals with Autism Recruit and assess individuals for work opportunities in the IT field Provide assistance with soft skills Includes communication, networking, teamwork, professional relationships, interviewing

9 Supported Employment Program
Provide job readiness, development, placement, and coaching in community settings Rehabilitation Services Administration Includes trial work, discovery, and customized employment Medicaid Waiver Source America Staffing Service

13 Our Mission The Arc of Northern Virginia promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and actively supports their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

14 Overview Founded in 1962 by a group of families looking for school services and resources for their children Affiliated with The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Virginia It is estimated that over 34,000 individuals in Northern Virginia have an intellectual or developmental disability

Coordinating services Connecting families to vital resources Serving 126 individuals & their families

16 Serving as Guardians of Last Resort
For those who are indigent Help with decision making Have nobody else to serve in this capacity Serving 30 individuals

17 Managing Special Needs Trusts
Allowing people with disabilities to receive financial support to enhance their lives Does not jeopardize public benefits Serving Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia

Educating local legislators and officials Ensuring support and funding for critical programs and services Funding for special education graduates and those with complex needs
